Last Chance to Learn Two Step During April

 

modified:  Join us this Wednesday as Jeff Sanchez teaches his fourth and final week of Two Step lessons.  By now SNC dancers are well versed in defining their quicks from their slows while doing all sorts of patterns.   Stop by this last session even if you haven’t been able to make the first three.   There is always something for everyone.

new:  Double Two During May

 

Hania Richmond will head up Wednesdays in May with Double Two.  Hania currently has taught at Swing ‘n’ Country, X Dance and Genesis and most recently took top teacher award at the Los Angeles Classic.  We all remember how suave everyone was dancing after her Waltz series last year.    Come again in May and see how smooth your Double Two can become!

Other Chicagoland Happenings:

April 26:  Saturday.  Chicago Dance News will host a Double Dance at Ballroom City, 207 S. Villa Ave, Villa Park 60181.  Country music will run from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.   West Coast Swing and Hustle music will run from 10:00 pm to midnight.   There will also be a Two-Step Jack n Jill.  For you hungry dancers, pizza will be served.   Step outside the Country box, arrive early, and learn how to Rumba.   Brian Wong will show you the basics. May 9:  Friday. X Dance holds its regularly scheduled dance at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131. Special guest instructors Ben Morris and Melina Ramirez will be in town to teach a West Coast Swing lesson. (map)

Competition Corner

Happenings is awaiting results from the following events where SNC members and friends competed:

Oklahoma Dance Rush, held April 11 – April 13.

Los Angeles Classic, held April 11 – April 13.

Indy Swing Classic, held April 18 - 20.

Happenings does know for sure however that Hania Richmond took first place as best female Pro-Am teacher and Don Macdonald took second place as best male teacher at the Los Angeles Classic.  Congratulations!

 

Out-of-Town Happenings

April 24 – 27: Swing Dance America.  Milwaukee Hilton City Center, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  Join current champion Team Chicago and bring the team trophy back to our hometown.  Contact Carlos Garcia for details.   Full tummies are guaranteed with a Friday night pizza party and a Saturday night buffet.   The emcees are Robert Royston and Jimmy Mulligan.   (details)

May 4:   Simply Swing Dance in Mishawaka, Indiana, features all forms of Swing dancing at its dances.  BK Club, 721 S. West Street, Mishawaka, IN.  Dancing from 3:00 pm to 6 pm.  Lesson begins at 3:30 pm.  (map)  (details)

May 30 – June 1:  Circle City Classic.  Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel & Suites.  Indianapolis, Indiana.  Event Directors:  Mark Bradburn, Melissa Culbertson, Dennis & Carol Waite.  Your MC’s are Jennifer Jeffries and Albert Tailleur.  This is a fully sanctioned UCWDC world-qualifying event which is only a three to four hour drive from the Chicago area.  Come support this brand new event while cheering on your SNC friends and enjoying a multitude of workshops.  What a wonderful way to start out your summer!  (map)  (details)  This just in:   Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollman are one of the featured couples!

June 12 - 14:  Brickyard Boogie 2008.  Ramada Inn.  Indianapolis, Indiana.  Event Director:  Michael Lamb.  This event is being promoted as a no competition, strictly social dancing weekend.   Although West Coast Swing will be the primary focus there will be a sprinkling of Bop/Boogie, East Coast, Hustle, Night Club, Cha Cha, Salsa, Waltz, and Two Step.  Of course, special requests will be obliged also.  (details)  

new:  June 13 - 15:  Orange Blossom Dance Festival.  Marriott Orlando Airport.   Orlando, Florida.   Event Director:  Shawn Swaithes.  This UCWDC sanctioned event was voted “2007 Favorite North American Event”.  Sunday night will wrap up with an excursion to Disney's Pleasure Island Adult Park.  Many of our SNC competitors have voted to attend this one!
