January Lessons

West Coast Swing on Wednesdays

 

modified:  Fresh from his Friday night lesson, Rich Cooper kicks off the new year with a month-long series of Wednesday night lessons on West Coast Swing. Rich is a recent competitor at the U.S. Open, and in addition to teaching West Coast Swing, also teaches a newer dance called Swango. 

Treat yourself to a month of West Coast Swing with one of our favorite instructors.

Beginner:                     7:30 – 8:25 pm

Intermediate:               8:35 – 9:30 pm

Note:  The four-week session will begin on the second Wednesday in January.

The “Swing Daddy” of the dance community, Mario Robau, comes back to Chicago at the second SNC Friday dance in January.  Chicago dancers’ favorite son now has on-line lessons as well as DVD’s available.  Check them out and get warmed up for Mario’s January visit!

Waltz on Wednesdays

 

Christopher Hussey and Katrina Branson return to Swing N Country for Wednesday night lessons in February. They will bring their knowledge and love of Waltz to share with everyone who attends.

Christopher and Katrina are current U.S Open competitors and founders of Chi Town Swing, an organization dedicated to the promotion of swing dancing in the Chicago area.

Da Dance Camp

 

modified:  February 22-24, 2008, marks the 10th anniversary of SNC’s annual dance event. An overwhelmingly positive response to last year’s new location ensures that the “Camp” returns at the Waterford Conference Center in Elmhurst, Il. Plan to join your friends as SNC celebrates ten years of roaring 1920s fashions and themes, and lots of dancing.  Be sure to register by February 9 to take advantage of early bird pricing for weekend passes.

new:  January 11:  Friday. X Dance holds its regularly scheduled dance at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131. A free beginner West Coast Swing lesson starts at approximately 7:30 pm, taught by Jim Becker. Immediately following will be an 8:00 pm Hustle lesson taught by Don Macdonald. (map)

January 18 – 20, 2008:  University of Mario 15th Anniversary.  After teaching at SNC’s Friday night dance, Mario continues his weekend in Chicago presenting West Coast Swing workshops on Saturday and Hustle workshops on Sunday at The Centre at North Park. You can take these classes ala carte or book the whole weekend!  Brought to you by Dance Masters, the workshops run from at 11:00 am to 3:45 pm on Saturday and from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday.  (details)

January 19:     Saturday.   The Chicago Rebels holds its regularly schedule dance at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park.  Lessons are from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm followed by open dancing until midnight. More information to be available soon.  (map)

January 25 – 26, 2008:  X Dance Sixth Anniversary.  2006 “So You Think You Can Dance” winner Benji Schwimmer will teach six workshops (one on Friday, five on Saturday) and perform an exhibition.  A registration form is available online. The Centre at North Park, Franklin Park, IL.

Wednesdays:  Swing N Country’s Wednesday lessons feature Rich Cooper teaching West Coast Swing in January.

Thursdays:  Jon Serletic teaches a four-week Waltz class from January 10 through January 31.   The one-hour class begins at 8:00 at Two Left Feet Studio, 605 E. Ogden Avenue, Naperville, IL  60563 and is designed for couples.   A second Waltz session will follow in February.     Jon is also holding a two-week three-count Hustle class on January 10 and January 17 from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Competition Corner

Results from Country Dance World Championships, held 12/31 – 01/06, in Nashville, Tennessee, are now available online. Also, it was announced that next year’s World event will be held at Disney World in Orlando, FL.

 

Results from the Spotlight Dance Challenge, held 12/28 – 01/01 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, are now available online.

January 10 – 13, 2008:  America’s Classic.  Wyndham Greenspoint Hotel. Houston, Texas.  Event director Mario Robau invites his Midwestern friends to join featured instructors John Lindo, Blake Hobby, Gary Long, and Deborah Szekely.  A number of local dancers will be competing for the title of national Novice Champion in Jack & Jill and Strictly Swing.  (details)

February 1 – 10, 2008:  Swingin’@Sea 2008.  Southern Caribbean Dance Cruise.  The package includes plenty of open dancing and over twenty workshops including West Coast, Salsa, Cha-Cha, Hustle, NC and Two Step.
