Don Macdonald continues his popular Cha Cha lessons this week.  This popular instructor’s knowledge of dance technique and innovative choreography – as well as his own amazing hips - make him just the person to tackle this sexy dance!

To make the March 21st dance even more fun, there will be a 50/50 raffle.  Half the money will go to the raffle winner and the other half to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.  And there's more... second prize will be a DVD player, third prize a dance video, and there may be even more.  Please join us in supporting St. Jude’s.

 

Two Step on Friday, March 21

Join Maren Oslac as she takes us through Two (or more) Steps at our second dance of March.  Dancers can always count on Maren for innovative choreography and a friendly teaching style.

  • Elections closed on Friday, March 7.  Thank you to all members who cared enough to vote for those who will guide Swing’n’Country during the next year. 
  • Once counting is complete, an official announcement will be made regarding the new officers and Board members.
  • The new Board will meet for the first time in April.

Other Chicagoland Happenings:

March 14 – 16, 2008:   The Chicago Classic.   Marriott-Chicago, O’Hare.  Jim Becker and Nancy Tuzzolino of the Chicago Swing Dance Foundation have provided a great line up of instructors, including Jordan Frisbee and Tatiana Mollmann, Ronnie DeBenedetta and Brandi Tobias, Jason Barnes and Erica Berg, Jason Miklic and Sophy Kdep, and Benji Schwimmer.  Up to $17,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded to competition winners.  The early bird deadline has passed, but on-line registration is still available.  (details).

new:  In keeping with its Mission Statement to promote dancing, Swing’n’Country will be sponsoring the Young Adult Division at The Chicago Classic.  Be sure to watch the future of our dance sport as these young people compete on Sunday afternoon.

March 22:  Saturday. Genesis Dance Club Easter Dance offers a Waltz lesson beginning at 8:00 pm and hosts a dance following at 9:00 pm at Diamond Dancesport, 7767 W. 96th Place, Hickory Hills, Illinois, 60047. (details) (map) 

March 28:  Friday. X Dance holds its regularly scheduled dance at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131. A West Coast Swing lesson starts at approximately 7:30 pm. This will be the only X Dance event in March. (map) 

March 29:  Saturday.  Christopher Hussey and Katrina Branson of Chi-Town Swing will host West Coast Swing workshops and open dancing on Saturday at The Centre at North Park.       (details)

March 30:   Sunday.  Second Annual Diva Danceport Showcase and Dinner Dance.  Dance with Maren Oslac or Jeff Sanchez in the showcase and show what you know at Diamond Dancesport, 7767 W. 96th Place, Hickory Hills, Illinois.  The showcase will be held from 2:30 pm to 6:00 pm with a four-course dinner and dance immediately following.  (details) (map)

Mondays:  Maren Oslac  teaches West Coast Swing at Diamond Dancesport, 7767 W. 96th Place, Hickory Hills, IL 60457.   Beginner class at 7:00 pm.  Intermediate at 7:45 pm.  The Specialty Class for March is Music and Phrases at 8:30 pm.  (map) (details)

Wednesdays:  Swing N Country’s Wednesday lessons feature Don Macdonald teaching Cha Cha in March.

Thursdays: Maren Oslac began a new six-week session on February 21 at Diamond Dancesport, 7767 W. 96th Place, Hickory Hills, IL 60457 entitled Ballroom II (Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango) at 7:00 pm.  A six-week session of Ballroom I immediately follows at 8:00 pm. Out-of-Town Happenings

March 22.  Saturday.   The Milwaukee Rebels present Hustle workshops with Paul and Angie Cameron. The classes are 4:00 – 5:00 pm (Beginner) and 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm (Intermediate) at the Delaware House, 2499 S Delaware Ave, Milwaukee, WI  53207. 

March 21 – 22:  So You Think You Can Dance auditions.   The eligibility requirements include bringing your own music and your own non-competing dance partner.  C’mon!  We have enough great dancers in the Chicagoland area who would really make great candidates!   Milwaukee Theatre, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee, Wisconsin 53203.

modified:  April 11 – 13:  Oklahoma Dance Rush.   Biltmore Hotel, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The former Gateway Event (St. Louis) has moved to Oklahoma City.  This event is offering Pre-Newcomer Pro-Am Division and Starter Division, for those who’d like to get their toes wet.  Event director is Beth Emerson.
