A Gingerbread Holiday Dinner Dance
Friday, December 4, 2009

Our holiday dance will be held at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, 60131 with a cash bar opening at 6:30 pm. Dinner will be served promptly at 7:30 pm with open dancing following from 9:00 pm ‘til midnight. Early Bird Cut Off is November 15. Member pricing is only $25.00 for dinner and dance. We are helping the U.S. Marine Corp in their Toys for Tots mission to deliver new, unwrapped toys to children at Christmas. You can bring your gift to the second dance in November as well as the Holiday Dinner Dance.

Bev Solazzo Teaches West Coast Swing

On Wednesdays in November

Bev Solazzo will bring something for everyone including rhythm/timing patterns, styling, musicality and lots of fun learning. Bev is a successful national competitor and loves to teach rhythm dances including the Carolina Shag.

West Coast Swing (WCS) is characterized by a distinctive elastic look that results from its basic extension-compression technique of partner connection, and is danced primarily in a slotted area on the dance floor. (Taken from Wikipidia.)

Colleen MacDonald teaches WCS at the November 6 Dance

Colleen MacDonald is a regular teacher at May I Have This Dance and is returning to Swing ‘n’ Country for the second time.

The Friday night lesson can go by quite quickly when Colleen is teaching as she is a dynamite teacher with lots of energy.

Theme for this dance: Sadie Hawkins. Ladies can feel free to ask the men to dance. No, it’s not a marriage commitment as was in the Al Caps comic strip!

Nancy Tuzzolino teaches Hustle at the November 20 Dance

Nancy Tuzzolino is the Special Events and Dance Director for the Chicago Rebels and has been a member of that club since its inception in 1996. She is also co-director of the Chicago Classic. Nancy is a teacher and competitor in both Hustle and West Coast Swing.

The word “Hustle” means to move energetically or rapidly. This is exactly what this dance does. Leads, be ready to think on your feet!

Theme for this dance: U.S. Marine Corp Toys for Tots: This is your first opportunity to bring in an unwrapped toy for a child to be distributed at Christmas. Your second opportunity is the Holiday Dinner Dance.

DVD Recorder Wanted – Wednesday Lessons

Is there a reader out there who can faithfully come to the Wednesday lessons to video record and make DVDs for the students? The SNC Board is looking for someone to take over this volunteer position effective with the lessons beginning in January. Contact Roger Peterson if you think you can help carry on this value-added benefit.

November 7, Saturday: Jon Serletic teaches East Coast Swing at 7:30 pm at the Saddle Up Saloon , 4440 West Ogden Ave. @ Hwy 59, Aurora, 60504. (map)

November 7 and November 21: Saturdays. The Chicago Rebels holds its dances the first and third Saturdays of the month at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, 60131. Concurrent beginner and intermediate/advanced lessons are held from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm followed by open dancing until midnight. Christopher VanHouton will be teaching at the November 7 dance. (map)

November 13: Friday. X Dance holds its dances the second and fourth Fridays at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, 60131. During November there will be once dance only. There is a free beginner’s lesson at 7:30 pm, followed by an intermediate/advanced lesson at 8:00 pm. Details can be found on their web site. (map)

November 14: Saturday. Chicago Dance News hosts Double Dance Swing with Swing Styling taught by Dallas Radcliff. Ballroom City, 207 S. Villa Ave., Villa Park, 60181. The 8:30 pm lesson is followed by open dancing from 9:00 pm until midnight. Double Dance Country will be held December 26. (map)

Mondays: Maren Oslac hosts a four week series of West Coast Swing lessons during November at Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park, 60477. WCS 101 begins at 7:00 pm and is followed by WCS 102 at 8:00 pm. (map)

Mondays: Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm. Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too! Contact Jill to learn more or for directions to the class.

Wednesdays: Bev Solazzo teaches West Coast Swing at SNC.

Thursdays: Alisa Winkler teaches West Coast Swing during the month of November at Studio Viva! in Palatine from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Contact Alisa for more details. (map)

November 21: Saturday. Swing n Country Madison is a brand new dance venue being put together by Doug Jenkins. It is located at 3001 S. Stoughton Rd 53716. Mike Topel will be teaching three workshops: Beginning Two Step at 3:00 pm, Double Two Weaves at 4:15 pm and Beg/Int Two Step Samba Turns. Open dancing begins at 8:00 pm. Early bird pricing can ends November 17. This sounds like a fun mini road trip for the Chicago dancers. (map)

November 26-29: US Open. Marriott Hotel, Anaheim, California. Contact Nancy Tuzzolino for tickets to see some of the best dancers on the WCS circuit.

November 27-29: C.A.S.H. Bash Weekend. Hilton Garden Inn, Twinsburg, Ohio. Staff includes Jason Miklic and Doug Rousar.
