Hania Richmond continues her Waltz instruction at our Wednesday lessons and our January 16^th dance. Here she is in action. Congratulations to Hania on her 5^th place Top Teacher Award at the UCWDC World Championships in Orlando!

new: Swing ‘n’ Country Elections

We need you!!  Elections for officers and the board of directors of our club will occur soon and we are in the process of preparing the ballot.  This year we are electing Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and three full-term board members. Secretary and Treasurer serve for one year; board members serve for two years.  Because of recent vacancies, we are also electing a fourth board member for a one-year term.   

Please consider serving Swing ‘n’ Country by running for one of these positions.  Board meetings occur once per month usually on a Monday evening.  Board members serve on one or more committees and are expected to work at the registration desk several times per year.  Please contact any board member for information on the duties for each position.  If you are interested, please contact Roger via e-mail or telephone (224-622-1223).

new: January 17, 2009: Saturday. Maren Oslac will teach a Two Step Weave workshop from noon until 1:30 pm at Heart and Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183^rd St., Tinley Park, Illinois. (map)

new: January 17, 2009: Saturday. Chicago Rebels. Nancy Tuzzolino will teach an Intermediate lesson from 8:00-9:00 pm prior to general dancing, which will take place from 9:00 pm until midnight. The dance will be held at The Centre at North Park , 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, Illinois. (map)

January 22, 2009: Thursday. Julie Hein offers her Spins and Turns workshops from 7:00-8:30 pm (includes a practice period)...just in time for Mario's workshops, which begin the following day. Learn chaine and pivot turns both from front and back-line of-dance positions. This is an excellent class worth repeating. DVDs of the class will be available for purchase. It will be held at Ballroom City, 207 S. Villa Avenue, Villa Park, Illinois 60181.

January 23 – 25, 2009: Mario in Chicago. Friday-Sunday workshops. DanceMasters sponsors a whole weekend of our favorite Swing Daddy, Mario Robau. Saturday features West Coast Swing workshops and Sunday workshops focus on Hustle. All activities will take place at Centre at North Park, Franklin Park, Illinois. January 23: Friday. X Dance celebrates its anniversary at The Centre at North Park 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131. Doors open at 7:00 pm, with a West Coast Swing lesson by Mario Robau beginning at approximately 8:00 pm. This is a tie-in with the “Mario in Chicago” weekend. General dancing runs from 9:00 pm until midnight. (map)

new: January 24: Saturday. Double Dance. Held at Ballroom City, 207 S. Villa Ave., Villa Park, Illinois, the evening will begin with a lesson from 7:30-8:30 pm, followed by open dancing from 9:00 pm until midnight.

Mondays: Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm. Pilates will help dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too! Contact Jill to learn more or for directions to the class.

Mondays: The weeks of January 12th, 19th, and 26th, Alisa Winkler teaches beginner West Coast Swing at Sonia’s Dance Rhythm, 534 W. Wise Rd. Schaumburg, Illinois. This is a three week session of classes. E-mail Alisa for more details.

Wednesdays: SNC Wednesday lessons feature Hania Richmond teaching Waltz in January.

Results of the UCWDC World Championships, held in Orlando, Florida, highlight our wonderful area dancers and teachers. Results will be posted as soon as the UCWDC website is back to normal.

March 13 – 15, 2009: The Chicago Classic returns for its second year. Sponsored by the Chicago Swing Dance Foundation, The Classic brings the best and the brightest of West Coast Swing to Chicago.

April 23 – 26, 2009: Swing Dance America 2009. Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Lots of workshops, lots of open dancing, competitions in both Swing and Hustle in two ballrooms.
