Ballots for members of the 2009-2010 Swing ‘n’ Country Board were mailed today. You can place the completed form in the ballot box at Dance Camp or in return mail.

modified: Maren Oslac teaches West Coast Swing in February

Last Wednesday Maren drilled the Beginners with good basics in right and left side passes as well as the sugar push. Maren then challenged the Intermediate dancers with Valentine-week positions such as the Karate Chop of Love and the Sweetheart Move. That first one sounds scary. It isn’t. Find out more great tips and tricks to make your West Coast red hot. Join us this Wednesday! Watch Maren in competition at a Jack ‘n’ Jill and you’ll get an idea of what you’re in store for at one of her lessons.

new: Julie Hein brings in March with Double Two

Our ever popular Julie Hein will be teaching Double Two during Wednesdays in March and at our first dance on March 6. This country dance combines swing with two-step in that it has a left track and a right track in weaves and will include lariats and free spins. Join us with triple, triple, walk, walk footwork and giggle, giggle, grin, grin laughter in March.

Other Chicagoland Happenings:

February 26: Thursday. Julie Hein and Don Leynes will teach two Double Two workshops at Ballroom City, 207 S. Villa Ave., Villa Park, Illinois. Beginner workshop begins at 7:00 pm, followed by an intermediate workshop at 8:00 pm. A videotape will be available for purchase. (map)

February 27: Friday. A Friday Night Dance Party will be held Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park. Lesson begins at 8:00 pm followed by open dancing. (map) (details)

February 27: Friday. X Dance hosts a dance at The Centre at North Park 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, IL 60131. Doors open at approximately 7:15 pm. General dancing runs from 9:00 pm until midnight. (map)

February 28, Saturday. The Chicago Rebels will hold a West Coast Swing party at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave. UCWDC champion, Carlos Garcia, will teach a West Coast Swing lesson from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Open dancing will follow until midnight. (map)

March 13 – 15, 2009: The Chicago Classic returns for its second year. Sponsored by the Chicago Swing Dance Foundation, the Classic brings the best and the brightest of West Coast Swing to Chicago.

Mondays: Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm. Pilates will help dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too! Contact Jill to learn more or for directions to the class.

Mondays: Bev Solazzo and Randy Baustert teach a six-week Swing class at Lyons Township High School, 100 S. Brainard Ave., La Grange, from Feb 2 – March 16. Class runs from 8:15-9:15 pm. Mondays: Alisa Winkler teaches beginner West Coast Swing on February 16th and 23rd from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at Sonia’s Dance Rhythm, 534 W. Wise Rd. Schaumburg. Leaders are needed. (map) (details)

February 12 – 15, 2009 Capital Swing. Radisson Hotel and Convention Center, Sacramento, California. The Chicago Rebels has a table for the event. If you would like to purchase a ticket, contact Nancy Tuzzolino.

February 26 – March 1, 2009 Ft. Wayne Showdown. Hilton Ft. Wayne at the Grand Wayne Center, Ft. Wayne, Indiana 46802. Featured are workshops, open dancing, and the Saturday night “Dance Academy Awards Show.”

April 23 – 26, 2009: Swing Dance America 2009. Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Lots of workshops, lots of open dancing, competitions in both Swing and Hustle in two ballrooms.

July 2 - 4, 2009: Sweet Home Chicago. Wyndham Hotel O’Hare. Party, dance, eat, dance, shop, dance (no competition) with the folks from the Windy City Jitterbug Club. Staff includes Julie Hein.

new: July 17-19, 2009: The North East Wisconsin Rebels Swing Dance Club presents the 18th annual Wisconsin Dance Challenge. Radisson Hotel, Green Bay, WI. Doug Rousar, Event Director.

August 21 - 12, 2009: Chicagoland Dance Festival. Crown Plaza Chicago O’Hare. Look forward to workshops, open dancing and competitions at CDF. See if its reputation as an event that is fun to the MAX is true.

August 27 - 30, 2009: Swingin’ Dance Party. Drawbridge Inn, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. 13 hours of workshops and open dancing with no competition. Staff includes Maren Oslac and Jeff Sanchez.
