Julie Hein brings in March Like a Lion

Will she send it out like a lamb? Our Double Two leads and follows were treated to “really gross jokes for all” (direct quote from the teacher). The Beginners were shown how to make their basics look smooth and the Intermediate follows were shown how chane′ turns can give their leaders a chance to cut to the inside to close smoothly.

Join Julie and her assistant Don for more fun (and jokes) with the Double Two during the month of March.

All dance, all movement, all human life, begin the same way: with a breath. Whether we are aware of it or not -- the rise and fall of the chest caused by our breathing informs everything we do. We often take it for granted. Holding the breath creates a stifled, lifeless dancer. By connecting to the breath, dancers reaffirm their most basic human ability and connect with fellow dancers (as well as their audiences).

Sponsored by the Chicago Swing Dance Foundation, the Classic brings the best and the brightest of West Coast Swing to Chicago. Bonus: Dance Camp Chicago’s very own Jennifer Jeffries will once again emcee, and over $18,000 in prize money is offered to some of the hottest competition dancing you’ll see. Mondays: Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm. Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too! Mondays: Bev Solazzo and Randy Baustert teach a six-week Swing class at Lyons Township High School, 100 S. Brainard Ave., La Grange, from February 2 – March 16. July 2 - 4, 2009: Sweet Home Chicago. Wyndham Hotel O’Hare. Party, dance, eat, dance, shop, dance (no competition) with the folks from the Windy City Jitterbug Club.

July 17-19, 2009: The North East Wisconsin Rebels Swing Dance Club presents the 18th annual Wisconsin Dance Challenge. Radisson Hotel, Green Bay, WI. Doug Rousar, Event Director.

August 21 - 23, 2009: Chicagoland Dance Festival. Crown Plaza Chicago O’Hare. Look forward to workshops, open dancing and competitions at CDF. See if its reputation as an event that is fun to the MAX is true.

August 27 - 30, 2009: Swingin’ Dance Party. Drawbridge Inn, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. Thirteen hours of workshops and open dancing with no competition. Staff includes Maren Oslac and Jeff Sanchez.
