In addition to promising no-snow/rain-Wednesdays (?), Julie and her sidekick, Don, introduced beginners to a Man’s Hairbrush. (One wonders about the leads of bald men.) Intermediates got to dance a “whirligig” wrap pattern that left mouths agape – and smiling with confidence.

March 21: Saturday. The Chicago Rebels will hold a West Coast Swing party at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave, Franklin Park, 60131. Carlos Garcia will teach a West Coast Swing lesson from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Open dancing will follow until midnight. (map)

new: April 11^: Saturday. Dance World hosts a dance at Hoffman Estates Community Center, 1685 W. Higgins Rd., Hoffman Estates, 60169 beginning with a 7:30 pm West Coast Swing lesson by Julie Hein. General dancing begins at 8:30 pm. (map)

April 23 – 26, 2009: Swing Dance America 2009. Grand Geneva Resort and Spa, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Lots of workshops, lots of open dancing, competitions in both Swing and Hustle in two ballrooms. Swing ‘n’ Country has a table at the event. Contact Leah Noparstak if you’d like to be part of the SNC table.

Mondays: Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm. Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too! Contact Jill to learn more or for directions to the class.

Mondays: Alisa Winkler teaches beginner West Coast Swing from March 2nd to the 23rd from 7:00 - 8:00 pm at Sonia’s Dance Rhythm, 534 W. Wise Rd. Schaumburg. Leaders are needed. (map)(details)

Thursdays: Maren Oslac teaches a four-week series of Nightclub through the month of March at Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park, 60477. Nightclub 101 begins at 7:30 pm, and Nightclub 102 at 8:30 pm. (map)

new: May 8, 2009: Opening of Love n’ Dancing, a movie about the “only two things in life (that) are universal.” Choreographed and produced by Robert Royston, and featuring Nicola Royston in a leading role, Chicago dancers are sure to enjoy watching “our” sport on the big screen.

May 15-17, 2009: Kristin & Monte Ham Private Lessons. Ballroom City, Villa Park. Book a private lesson with Chicago favorites by contacting Susie Kaplan. (map) Kristin & Monte will also be teaching at the SNC dance on Friday, May 15.

July 2 - 4, 2009: Sweet Home Chicago. Wyndham Hotel O’Hare. Party, dance, eat, dance, shop, dance (no competition) with the folks from the Windy City Jitterbug Club.

July 11, 2009: WWII USO themed Swing Dance. Green Bay, Wisconsin. Hosted by the National Railroad Museum. The event includes a live swing band, cash bar, food, and WWII re-enactors. Contact Jacqueline Frank for more information. (map)

July 17-19, 2009: The North East Wisconsin Rebels Swing Dance Club presents the 18th annual Wisconsin Dance Challenge. Radisson Hotel, Green Bay, WI. Doug Rousar, Event Director.

August 21 - 23, 2009: Chicagoland Dance Festival. Crown Plaza Chicago O’Hare. Look forward to workshops, open dancing and competitions at CDF. See if its reputation as an event that is fun to the MAX is true.

August 27 - 30, 2009: Swingin’ Dance Party. Drawbridge Inn, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. Thirteen hours of workshops and open dancing with no competition. Staff includes Maren Oslac and Jeff Sanchez.
