modified: Don Macdonald Hustles His Way Into May

The fabulous Don Macdonald continues to challenge dancers with his Hustle lessons on Wednesdays. Clever choreography, precise instruction: it doesn’t get much better than this. If you missed seeing this second place best male teacher at the 2008 Los Angeles Classic, you can check him out dancing Hustle at the 2005 Da Dance Camp.

Don has a reputation for clever choreography and wicked humor. You’ll experience both when you join him for a month of Nightclub lessons on Wednesdays in June as well as his Friday night lesson at the second dance of the month, June 19.

new: Polka with Jon Serletic

Jon joins SNC for a Polka lesson on Friday night, June 5. This energetic dance is one of Jon’s specialties. See what he has in store for SNC dancers.

Dance Camp Survey Online

The Dance Camp planning committee is seeking feedback from the 2009 event, to help shape 2010. In addition to receiving the survey via e-mail, SNC members have the option to use the online version to give their input on what did, or did not, work this year. The survey takes approximately 5-10 minutes to complete. Let your voice be heard and help shape next year’s event.

Wisconsin Dance Challenge: The first SNC table has been filled for this event, so we’re starting a second. Contact Leah Noparstak if you’d like to be part of the 2nd SNC table as well as get a great deal: workshops and late night buffets are included in the weekend price.

May 22: Friday. X Dance has been rescheduled to May 29.

May 23: Saturday. Brian Wong, editor of Chicago Dance News, hosts a Memorial Day Double Dance at Ballroom City, 207 Villa Avenue, Villa Park, 60181. There will be lessons at 8:00 pm and 8:30 pm and open dancing from 9:00 pm - midnight. (map)

May 23: Saturday. Studio Viva presents a Swing and Hustle Dance from 8:00pm - Midnight. Bring a friend and get 2 for 1 admittance. Studio is located at 41 E. Northwest Hwy, Palatine 60067. (map)

May 29: Friday. X Dance holds a dance at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, 60131. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Instructor is TBA. (map)

modified: May 29-31: Circle City Classic. Marriott, Indianapolis, Indiana. Fully-sanctioned UCWDC event. Many dancers are taking a road trip to Indy for the party. Local teachers on staff include Don Macdonald, Hania Richmond and Julie Hein as well as Christopher Hussey and Katrina Branson. Check the website for more details.

Mondays: Maren Oslac teaches a four-week series of West Coast Swing lessons through the month of May at Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park, 60477. West Coast Swing 101 begins at 7:00 pm, West Coast Swing 201 begins at 8:00 pm. (map)

Mondays: Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm. Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too! June 11 - August 23: Chicago Summer Dance Festival. Grant Park. Group dance instruction in everything from ballroom to country line dancing on a 3,500 square foot open-air floor at the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park

July 2 - 4: Sweet Home Chicago. Wyndham Hotel O’Hare. Party, dance, eat, dance, shop, dance (no competition) with the folks from the Windy City Jitterbug Club. Julie Hein is a featured instructor.

July 11: WWII USO themed Swing Dance. Green Bay, Wisconsin. Hosted by the National Railroad Museum. The event includes a live swing band, cash bar, food, and WWII re-enactors. Contact Jacqueline Frank for more information. (map)

July 24: Swing’n’Country invites one and all to its annual mid-summer party. Details to follow.

August 21 - 23: Chicagoland Dance Festival. Crown Plaza Chicago O’Hare. Look forward to workshops, open dancing and competitions at CDF. See if its reputation as an event that is fun to the MAX is true.

August 27 - 30: Swingin’ Dance Party. Drawbridge Inn, Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky. Thirteen hours of workshops and open dancing with no competition. Staff includes Maren Oslac and Jeff Sanchez. Contact Maren to sit at a table with your Chicago friends.
