Bonus for all attending the first dance: two SNC points to start off the dance year. Accumulating volunteer points can get you free admission, free dance lessons or even free admittance to Dance Camp. Here’s how it works:

Volunteer Point Policy: 1 hour of volunteering earns 2 volunteer points.
1 Admission to Dance	4 volunteer points
1 Dance Lessons	8 volunteer points
1 Month Dance Lessons	24 Volunteer points
Admission to Dance Camp	100 Volunteer points

new: Shout Out for Swing’n’Country

The following e-mail was received from a California visitor to our recent pizza party dance:

It was great to see everyone again since November 08.  Even though I had a pretty severe case of food poisoning last Friday, I still wanted to go to the Centre.  My sister and her husband who have recently started dancing, and who have never been to the Centre before wanted to tag along.  Thank you so much for your hospitality to them and the fact that you took so much time showing them some new steps and technique.

Thank you so much for all of your hard work, set up, great DJ, staying late, in making the dance a success.   

Your dance was the highlight of the weekend!

Other Chicagoland Happenings

Wednesday, August 5: Wear your SNC "colors" (t-shirt) to Sugar Creek Road, a country/Americana band, which will be featured at Clarendon Hills' 10th annual Dancin' in the Streets. Join your friends for an early evening (6:30-9:00 pm) of dancing. Julie Hein is the organizer. Dancing is literally IN the street. Wear boots/shoes that are asphalt-friendly.

Love n’ Dancing Screening on Monday, August 17

SNC is co-sponsoring a showing of the new film “Love N’ Dancing.” The Chicago premier will be held at Durty Nellie’s in Palatine. In addition to the showing, there will be a chance to win prizes donated by the area dance clubs for those who purchase early-bird tickets. After the movie, there will be open dancing. The action on Saturday just doesn’t stop! Take your pick of dance activity; there are too many to count! (Please note that the schedule is tentative and could change between now and the event):

· 8:30 am – Pro Am competition (Newcomer and Starter)

· 10:00 am- 5 pm – Three workshops each hour (separate from competition)

· 12:00 noon – Pro Am competition (Novice and Line Dance)

· 3:30 pm – Couples Classic competition (Gold Combined, Newcomer, Juniors, and Line Dance)

· 5:30 pm – Both ballrooms closed. (Whew! Eat. Shop. Catch a nap.)

· 7:00 pm – Both ballrooms reopen. Open dancing.

· 8:00 pm – Ballroom 1: Masters competition, exhibitions, Classic Open Swing Challenge

Ballroom 2: Open dancing: Chicago mix of Country and Swing music

· 10:30 pm Ballroom 1: Open dancing ‘til the cows come home

· 11:00 pm – Ballroom 2: Swing Jack & Jill finals (Novice, Intermediate & Advanced)

“The guest rooms are newly-refurbished and fantastic!  (I stayed in one to test it out!) You won't recognize the guest rooms!  The funky 1970's hair dryers are gone, the beds are incredibly comfortable, bathrooms completely overhauled.  A night in the Crowne Plaza O'Hare will feel like a vacation!”

Crew call from Julie Hein:

We need volunteers to help put up the Skyscraper backdrop and miscellaneous preparation as well as to take it down. Come about 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 20 and/or 5 pm on Sunday, August 23. Work with fun people and be rewarded with pizza and beer on Thursday. Sunday crew is invited to join the victory celebration at the fabulous Maria’s Mexican restaurant. Email Julie with your name and positive commitment so she doesn’t have to drink the all the beer herself! The team will earn SNC volunteer points!

June 11 - August 23: Chicago Summer Dance Festival. Grant Park. Group dance instruction in everything from ballroom to country line dancing on a 3,500 square foot open-air floor at the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park.

modified: August 29: Saturdays. The Chicago Rebels hold a West Coast Swing Party at the Centre at North Park 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park. Lessons by Jimmy Mulligan are from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, followed by open dancing until midnight. (map)

Mondays: Maren Oslac teaches a four-week series of West Coast Swing through the month of August at Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park, 60477. WCS 101 begins at 7:00 pm and is followed by WCS 102 at 8:00 pm. (map)

Mondays: Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm. Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too! Contact Jill to learn more or for directions to the class.

Wednesdays: SNC is on hiatus from summer classes. Come back in September when Hania Richmond will be teaching Two Step.
