As the dog days of summer begin to wind down, SNC returns to its regular schedule on September 4. Hania Richmond will open the fall schedule with a Two Step lesson; we’ll be joined by special guest DJ, Bob Boyle. SNC is also offering free volunteer points to those who attend the dance (See below for more details). It’s going to be a big way to kick off dancing in Chicago this fall. Join us for a fun and entertaining evening.

As a way of saying “thank you” and “welcome back,” SNC is offering a bonus for all attending the first dance in September: two SNC points to start off the dance year. Accumulating volunteer points can get you free admission to dances, free dance lessons or even free admission to Dance Camp. Here’s how it works:

Volunteer Point Policy: 1 hour of volunteering earns 2 volunteer points.
1 Admission to Dance	4 volunteer points
1 Wed Dance Lesson	8 volunteer points
1 Month Wed Dance Lessons	24 Volunteer points
Admission to Dance Camp	100 Volunteer points

Contact any board member to see where the Club can best use your talents. Chicagoland is a great place to begin accumulating points if you help the set up crew on Thursday, August 20, or the take down crew on Sunday, August 23. See below.

modified: Love n’ Dancing Screening on Monday, August 17

We’re less than one week away from the SNC-co-sponsored showing of the new film “Love N’ Dancing.” The Chicago premier will be held at Durty Nellie’s in Palatine. In addition to the showing, there will be a chance to win prizes donated by the area dance clubs for those who purchase early-bird tickets. After the movie, there will be open dancing. Ticket price includes $5 of Nellie Bucks good toward food or drink. More information on the event is available online. Order your tickets now to be part of this special event.

It’s Sunday, but the weekend activities aren’t over! Here’s a look at the day’s events:

· 10:00 am – Awards for the UCWDC & Swing Pro-Am, Line Dance, Swing & Hustle, and Jack & Jill competitions

· 10:00 am – Workshops

· 12:00 noon – Competitions for the Classic Couples, CDSG and Open Division III, II &I; Showcase Couples, and Crown divisions

· 3:00 pm – Strictly Swing and Strictly Hustle competitions

· 4:30 pm – Awards for the UCWDC Couples, Strictly Swing and Hustle competitions

· 5:00 pm – The weekend is over. NOW you can sleep! We’ll see you next year.

This just in: A new workshop has been added to the weekend. Gary McIntyre is teaching “Put Dynamics in your Dancing” at 6:00 pm, on Friday evening. This class will be an amazing experience from one of the top teachers in any form of dance. Gary is a former UCWDC Masters World Champion, who has traveled with the national touring company of SWING! You might remember him when he and his partner, Susan Kirklin, performed foxtrot and tango exhibitions on Friday night at Chicagoland two years ago. This workshop is included in the weekend pass.

The discounted rates will NOT show up on the general pricing page—you must enter the promo code before you'll see the reduced rates.

Volunteers are needed to help put up the Skyscraper backdrop and miscellaneous preparation as well as to take it down. Anyone who helps earns SNC volunteer points. E-mail Julie Hein if you’d like to help.

June 11 - August 23: Chicago Summer Dance Festival. Grant Park. Group dance instruction in everything from ballroom to country line dancing on a 3,500 square foot open-air floor at the Spirit of Music Garden in Grant Park.

August 14 and August 28: Fridays. X Dance holds their dances at The Centre at North Park, 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park, 60131. Doors open at 7:15 pm. Instructors are TBA. (map)

new: August 15: Saturday. Brian Wong, editor of Chicago Dance News, hosts a Double Dance at Ballroom City, 207 Villa Avenue, Villa Park, 60181. Lessons run from 8:30 pm to 9:00 pm, with open dancing following until midnight. (map)

August 29: Saturdays. The Chicago Rebels hold a West Coast Swing Party at the Centre at North Park 10040 Addison Ave., Franklin Park. Lessons by Jimmy Mulligan are from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, followed by open dancing until midnight. (map)

Mondays: Maren Oslac teaches a four-week series of West Coast Swing through the month of August at Heart & Sole Dance Studio, 7038 183rd St., Tinley Park, 60477. WCS 101 begins at 7:00 pm and is followed by WCS 102 at 8:00 pm. (map)

Mondays: Jill Popovich teaches Pilates in Arlington Heights starting at 7:00 pm. Pilates helps dancers of all levels learn to move their bodies more efficiently, resulting in smoother dancing, longer endurance, and more flexibility. You will feel better too! Contact Jill to learn more or for directions to the class.

Wednesdays: SNC is on hiatus from summer classes. Come back in September when Hania Richmond will be teaching Two Step.
